There is a real youth movement happening at Speedway 660. The Rodgers brothers are two of our most talented, most exciting and fastest young drivers. Andrew and Matt, who run in the competitive Martins Home Heating Sportsman Division, are proud to follow in the tracks of their grandfather Bob and father Steve. Wade Wilson recently had a Conversation with the Rodgers men about their love of racing.
It was a tough weekend for stock car racing families in the Maritimes. Mike Stevens died after a crash with just two laps to go, in a Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour race at Oyster Bed Speedway on Prince Edward Island. Mike was well-known here at Speedway 660. I’m pretty sure he ran a Sportsman car with us before competing in our Pro Stock division and then moving on to the Maritime Tour.
The unthinkable happened at a Maritime short-track this weekend. By now most of you have heard the shocking news that Mike Stevens, from Riverview, died in the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock race at Oyster Bed Speedway on Prince Edward Island on Saturday night.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Stevens family from everyone here at Speedway 660. Mike was well known here because he raced in our Pro Stock Division, before moving on to the Maritime Tour. Since then he came back to visit us at least twice a year, once for the annual tour race and then for the Auto Value 250 on SpeedWeekend.
Mike Stevens was a likeable young man. He was a good driver and always had very good equipment. He competed hard and always ran pretty good here at Speedway 660. It’s hard to believe he’s gone and our thoughts and prayers, at this very trying time, go out to Mike’s immediate family, his race team, everyone from the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour and the Maritime racing community. May he Rest in Peace.
