PASS This Way Again!
The Pro All Star Series is coming to Speedway 660 this Saturday night. It’s their only race in Atlantic Canada and one of two events in Canada. We sure are pleased that PASS officials are continuing to bring their awesome brand of racing to our fans.

Speedway 660 has a great schedule of events for 2011, but I believe the PASS 200 is right up there with SPEEDWEEKEND’s Auto Value 250. In terms of talent, excitement and drama the Pro All Star Series has it all. Johnny Clark will try to continue his string of dominating performances at Speedway 660. You’ll remember that Clark won both the PASS 200 and the Auto Value 250 last season.

This is the third PASS North event of the year. Johnny Clark won the season opener at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, down in Maine and Derek Ramstrom took top spot at STAR Speedway in New Hampshire. A May 21st race at White Mountain Motorsports Park was rained out and will be rescheduled for later this summer.

Lonnie Sommerville, a two time Auto Value 250 winner, who is running full time on the PASS tour this year, finished fourth in both races. Sommerville will look to improve that result this weekend on his home track.

Street Stocks and Sportsman to Race
Our RV World Street Stock and Martins Home Heating Sportsman Divisions will also run on Saturday night. Our teams are always excited to compete on the same night the PASS tour comes to Speedway 660. Our Bandolero, 4 Cylinder and Pro Stock divisions have the night off, although don’t be surprised if a few of our Pro Stock teams decide to compete with the PASS drivers.

What a Season Opener!
Last Saturday night we finally got to open our season. After getting “drizzled out” the week before, everyone was excited to go racing. DQ Kids Night was a rousing success. We had really good racing in all five divisions. The Bando and 4 Cylinder car counts have grown and these divisions are going to provide fans with bonus entertainment this season.

Rick Cashol and Greg Fahey have served notice in Street Stock and Pro Stock that they will be contenders and Glyn Nott was top dog in Sportsman.

Remembering Jack
Last week our good friend Jack Finnie passed away at 73. Several years ago Jack gave Michael Banks, who at the time was a rough and tumble street stocker, the opportunity to drive a Sportsman car. Michael, who had a respectable third place finish last week, has dedicated this season to team owner and friend Jack Finnie. Jack’s son John will manage the race team in 2011.

Our First Saturday Night Heroes
Most weeks our “Saturday Night Heroes” are race car drivers. But my pick for last week goes to the Glyn Nott’s crew. After the fan flew apart in a heat race, destroying the radiator and water pump, the team jumped into action. With some borrowed parts from fellow Sportsman competitor John Rankin, the Nott crew got their driver back on track for the feature.
Glyn Nott ended his night by celebrating the Martins Home Heating feature win in Victory Lane with his crew. Their efforts demonstrate clearly that racing is indeed a team sport and the members of “Team Nott” are my first Saturday Night Heroes of 2011.

PASS Weekend
Make sure you beat a path down to Speedway 660 this weekend. The Pro All Star Series makes its only appearance of the year in Atlantic Canada, so don’t you dare miss it. We’ll see you at the races!
