Pro Stock 150 and Martins Sportsman 100 – Wade’s Weekly 2011 Issue 7!

Pro Stock 150 and Sportsman 100
Hold onto your hats because this Saturday, Speedway 660 comes alive with another unbelievable night of action. The Best of the Best Pro Stock 150 is the scheduled event but because of a rain-out earlier in the season, we’ve added the Martins Home Heating Sportsman 100. Two blockbuster races on the same night, all for the price of one!

But wait, that’s not all. The Hanwell Village Mart Bandoleros, the 4 cylinders and the RV World Street Stocks will also be on track to entertain you. Because of all of this incredible action, please take note of the special start time of 6 o’clock. Starting an hour earlier will allow us to complete all of the racing and get everyone on the road back home at a decent hour.

SpeedWeekend Celebrity Driver
By the way, the winner of the Best of the Best Pro Stock 150 gets a guaranteed starting position in the AutoValue 250 on SpeedWeekend. Speaking of SpeedWeekend, Speedway 660 has just announced that Jimmy Spencer will race in the AutoValue 250. “Mr. Excitement” who these days is a commentator on the Speed Channel, raced in Nascar’s top division from 1989 until 2006. He won a couple of races, but may be best known for punching Kurt Busch’s lights out, when a young Busch tried to play rough with old Jimmy!
Jimmy Spencer is one of the most colourful and controversial personalities in Nascar. The “cigar-chomping commentator” is excited about coming to Canada to meet our fans and race in one of our country’s most prestigious short-track events. A full press release will be coming out from the Speedway shortly.

Oh What a Night!
Wow, Speedway 660’s Greg Fahey sure showed the Maritime Pro Stock Tour boys a thing or two. Greg’s “Rexall Rocket” won the time-trials and the qualifying heat last Saturday night. He led the most laps (84) in the Parts for Trucks 100 and claimed the half way challenge. In the end, Fahey surrendered the lead to Shawn Tucker and settled for second on an impressive night for the Charlotte County boy!
Not to be outdone, Shawn Hyslop another Charlotte County boy, won his first ever Martins Home Heating Sportsman feature. And Rob Pethick also became a first time feature winner in the RV World Street Stock Division. It was an awesome night of racing, certainly one of the best of the year.

Saturday Night Hero
By the way, last week in this space, I predicted Shawn Tucker would have a great night at Speedway 660. At the time I didn’t really know how great it would be.  Tucker had to be at his very best to win the Parts for Trucks 100. But without that late caution with less than 20 laps to go, I believe the defending tour champ would have had to settle for second place.

Although Shawn won the big race, my choice for Saturday Night Hero is Greg Fahey who raced as hard as we have ever seen him race. Greg is a homegrown Speedway 660 star. He won two championships in Street Stocks and was Rookie of the Year of the year in Sportsman before stepping up to Pro Stock where he has two titles to his credit.

It would have been a dream come true to win the Tour race and although Greg may be a bit disappointed, I think he should be extremely proud to be the runner-up behind the Tour’s most talented driver. And let’s face it Shawn Tucker had to use every bit of talent and experience of a three time Maritime Pro Stock Tour champion to come away with the win.

150 Plus 100
So look for Greg Fahey to continue to build momentum this weekend. After winning two features already this season and finishing second in last week’s Tour race, Greg will be one of the favourites in our Best of the Best Pro Stock 150. And the way his season is going, don’t be surprised if the speed demon from Charlotte County has a good showing in the AutoValue 250 on SpeedWeekend!

As far as I can tell, the Martin’s Home Sportsman Heating 100 is wide open with several teams capable of racing to the victory. There are two incredible features on Saturday night and you can see them both for the price of one event! Speedway 660 is the place and for this week only 6PM is the time. We’ll see you at the races.
