RV World Street Stock’s Rule! – Wade’s Weekly Issue 10!

RV World Street Stock’s Rule!
Our mid-summer break is almost over and this weekend Speedway 660 kicks off its stretch run. The RV World Street Stock 75 is the highlight of Saturday night’s racing program. You will also see the Hanwell Village Mart Bandoleros, 4 cylinders, Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman and O’Leary Auto Group Pro Stocks all racing for championship points.

But it’s the street stockers who will be front and center with their biggest race of the year. Most of the time street stocks play 3rd fiddle behind the Sportsman and Pro Stockers, but not this Saturday. The “ultimate creature feature” is 75 laps and that’s almost four times as long as their regular 20 lappers.

Who to Watch
We would be kidding ourselves if the first driver we named wasn’t Rick “The Villan” Cashol. Like him or not, Ricky is the top street stocker in Atlantic Canada. He is gunning for his 5th Speedway 660 championship in 2011. Cashol works hard to prepare his car and when the green flag flies he turns into an old school stock car driver.

Cashol has the ability to move a driver out of the way without wrecking them and has been known to trade more than a little paint on his way to Speedway 660’s Victory Lane. Despite his “villainous reputation” Rick Cashol really is a nice guy. He just races really hard and does whatever it takes to get that checkered flag and trophy. And what’s not to like about that.

But hold on just a minute. I am not ready to concede victory in the RV World Street Stock 75 to Rick Cashol. Benji Ruff, the former Enduro champ, is 2nd in street stock points this year and has shown everyone that he can go toe to toe or perhaps bumper to bumper with the best of them. Ruff can get rough if he has to, so look out for Benji this Saturday night.

Shannon Brake won the last street stock feature and this young man can really wheel a race car. Gentleman Jack Lane and Ron Pethick are having good seasons too. Rookies Peter Martin and Andrew Rodgers are proving that kids in their early teens can play with the vets. Speaking of veterans, the pride of Minto, Smokin Joe Albert is always worth the price of admission.

There’s one more driver I want to mention. I think Heidi Cooper is the sentimental favourite with our fans. She’s a classy young lady and is an inspiration to all of us with her enthusiasm and dedication to racing.
So, you better come out to Speedway 660 this weekend to see the RV World Street Stock drivers. This is their biggie and you don’t want to miss it!

Wait a Minute: There’s More!
You also don’t want to miss out on the racing in the other four divisions. I am totally blown away with the Hanwell Village Mart Bandolero and 4 cylinder car counts. And these two divisions have shown us some pretty good racing in 2011. Last year’s Bando champ Ryan Messer is in a real battle with Dana Hamm-Cameron and Alicia Mowat. Dana has dominated the last two features and sits three points up on young Ryan and Alicia. All of the Bandolero kids are awesome and it’s a treat to watch them get racing experience and grow up at Speedway 660.

You will also see the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman and O’Leary Auto Group Pro Stock drivers this weekend. The point battles are heating up and these drivers will thrill fans. If anyone is going to catch “Kenny-Mack” in Sportsman and “The Rexall Rocket” in Pro Stock, they had better make their move this weekend!

Saturday Night Heroes

Speedway 660’s kids are my pick for this week’s Saturday Night Heroes. All of the kids in the Bandolero division, Peter Martin and Andrew Rodgers in street stock, Andrew’s brother Matt in Sportsman and Jordan Gahan in Pro Stock are just a few of the great kids racing at Speedway 660. There are also a lot of awesome youngsters in the grandstands. We salute all of our kids this week as Speedway 660’s Saturday Night Heroes!

It’s August Already
The summer is flying past. This Saturday we begin the stretch run at Speedway 660. There’s still a month of racing to go, but before we know it August will fade away and the 2011 racing season will be history! So come on, get off the couch and get yourself down to Speedway 660 for the RV World Street Stock 75 this Saturday night at 7 o’clock. We’ll see you at the races!
