Get Ready for the PASS 200! – Wade’s Weekly 2012 – Issue #3

It’s pretty easy to get excited about this weekend’s race at Speedway 660! The Pro All Star Series Tour rolls into town for the PASS 200. Next to the Auto Value 250, it’s our biggest event of the year.

I really like the PASS race because it is an early season opportunity for our fans to see one of North America’s best short-track tours. And it is a chance for us to see which drivers are at the top of their game, because many of them will come back to see us on SpeedWeekend to try to win the 250.

Johnny Clark (center), the 2011 PASS champion and winner of the 2011 PASS 200 at Speedway 660, will be a top contender at this weekend’s event. Ben Rowe (right) and his dad Mike (left) finished second and third last year.

We all should be proud that the Pro All Star Series Tour has chosen Speedway 660 for its only Atlantic Canadian race! It says a lot about our great fans, sponsors and speedway volunteers, staff and management.

We will see a lot of top notch stars on Saturday night including Cassius Clark who won the PASS 150 at White Mountain Motorsports Park down in New Hampshire on May 27th. The legendary Ben Rowe will be tough this weekend and Johnny Clark, a two time Auto Value 250 winner, should be in the thick of things as well. About a month ago Johnny won the PASS 150 down at Star Speedway.

On Saturday night we will also see Joey Doiron who won the Southern Maine Motors 150 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway to kick off the PASS season. It was the first tour victory for the 2010 PASS Rookie of the Year!

Our fans will also be excited to see Saint John’s Lonnie Sommerville, the top Pro All Star Series Canadian driver. Lonnie finished 2nd in PASS points in 2011 and always looks forward to coming home to Speedway 660. We’ll post a Conversation with Lonnie on our web site later this week.

Kid’s Night was a huge success last Saturday night. It was a night to remember for O’Blenis Motorsports too. That’s because Alexandra took the feature win in the Hanwell Village Mart Bandolero division and her father Dave won the A.L. Gullison Disaster Clean-up Pro-Stock main event. I think Dave gets a bigger kick out of watching his daughters Alexandra and Courtney race than he does about his own pro stock races!

That 4 cylinder division is really providing us with lots of thrills this year. These little cars sure pack a punch and the division is continuing to attract more competitors. I believe there is a bright future at Speedway 660 for the Bandos and 4 cyls.

In the Martins Home Heating Sportsman division, Mark Harris pulled off his first Feature win and a hat trick last week. Mark, who’s dad Myles is a former Sportsman champ, has worked hard since taking the wheel of number 31 a year ago. And like his father, Mark is a soft-spoken gentleman and he is becoming one of our rising stars.

The Pro All Star Series Tour race has been a big part of the Speedway 660 schedule for the past three or four years. I encourage everyone to head out to the Geary Woods this Saturday at 7PM because you will be treated to 200 laps of exciting pro stock racing. You will also see qualifying heats for the PASS 200 as well as some great action in the RV World Street Stock and Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman divisions. See you at the races!
