Fredericton– Canada Day festivities come a day early to Speedway 660 this year! The 2012 Coca-Cola Refreshments Canada Day Celebrations and an exciting Weekly Points Series event get underway Saturday at 7PM. Fans will see racing in five competitive divisions and a fireworks show after the last checkered flag of the evening.
“Now that school is out, the weather and racing are both starting to heat up and we expect a great Canada Day weekend crowd to kick off the summer vacation season” said Speedway 660’s Steve Burns. “This is a perfect time for fans to take in some intense racing as drivers go all out to gain championship points and build momentum heading into July.
The tightest Speedway 660 championship point battle is in the RV World Street Stock division. Five time champ Rick Cashol and Shannon Brake are tied for first. Randy Moore has a narrow three point lead over Brent Roy and is just nine points up on Glyn Nott and Richard Atkinson in the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman Division. Dave O’Blenis, a two time A.L. Gullison Pro Stock Champion, has a seven point lead over Kevin Moore in Speedway 660’s top division.
The two newest divisions also have exciting championship battles brewing this season. Cole Tanner has a six point lead over Cole Boudreau and is eight up on defending Hanwell Village Mart Bandolero champion Dana Hamm-Cameron. And T J Madore leads Greg Cashol by eleven points in the four cylinder division.
“To win a Speedway 660 championship takes a strong, consistent effort all season and that’s why fans will be treated to exciting racing during every Weekly Points Series Event” said Burns. “While it’s natural to focus on the top of the standings, some of the best point battles are among race teams trying to crack the top five or top ten in their respective divisions.”
Bandolero and four cylinder heat races begin at 6:20PM on Saturday evening. The green flag for heat racing, in the top three divisions, flies at 7PM. And don’t forget about the Coca Cola Refreshments Canada Day Celebrations fireworks show that will light up the Geary skies at the end of the evening. Next Saturday (July7th), Speedway 660 welcomes the Parts for Trucks Maritime Pro Stock Tour to the Geary Woods for the Atlantic Dodge Dealer’s 100.
