Turple Takes CARQUEST 100!

Posted on June 21st, 2008

Fredericton, NB - Another exciting night at Speedway 660 ended with some familiar faces in victory lane for the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour 100 along with the newest additions to podium finishes in the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman Division and Coast Tire Street Stock Division.

The CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour 100 was the first event on the 2008 Season race schedule to host the Maritime Pro Stock Tour. Familiar Speedway 660 drivers, such as Greg Fahey, Brent Wiggins and Matt Harris took part in tonight’s 100 lap event against the tough competition of the regular tours drivers. Past champion, Dave O’Blenis in the #48 showed the tour drivers why he was crowned champion at Speedway 660 with a third place podium finish. Finishing in second was the one of the top contenders in the tour, the #44 of Wayne Smith and taking home the feature win for the CARQUEST Pro Stock 100 was the #0 of Shawn Turple.

In the Coast Tire Street Stock division the #23 of Mike Francis had to fight a to the finish in both his heat and feature but came out the winner in the end. Rocket Rodney Ness in the #11 began the feature in the first position, but slowly dwindled further back in the pack while charging drivers, Matt Matheson in the #2 and Jason Shannon in the #20, took the opportunity to gain a little more position. Matheson lead five laps until the fearless Mike Francis blew his way past the #2 while not far behind him was Shannon. Francis would go on to win the feature event with Shannon finishing in second. Bill Belleville made a later charge in the race, past the #2 of Matheson, to take home the third place position. In the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman Division the top five cars had a tough battle for the three podium finishes. At the beginning of the feature Randy Moore in the #34 held off the #1 of Mike Banks for five laps until Banks overtook Moore’s Ford. Randy Moore could have settled for second, but
little did he know Jeremy Graham, in the #25, was in his rear view mirror and closing in fast. Graham took the second place position from Moore on lap 25 after a long fought battle between the two, but Graham wasn’t done yet. Banks was in his sight and so was the first place podium win, his first for
the 2008 season. Graham thought he was going to be a shoe in for the win until the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman 100 winner, Glyn Nott in the #12, appeared out his passenger side window on lap 24. Graham only had a split second to see the #12 sail by to take home another podium finish. Jeremy
Graham had to settled for second in tonight’s feature while the #44 of George Jamieson, who made a hard charge past Mike Banks on lap 28, rounded out the top three.
