FREDERICTON: Steve Burns and Chris Johnston announced today that the Speedway has been sold to two local families, Max and Shawna Roy and Gary and Debbie Foley. The ownership transfer takes effect immediately.

“We are excited to announce that we have completed a deal to sell Speedway 660. Obviously after 17 years of operating Speedway 660 we have had a lot of great memories and we’ll miss everyone that was part of the Speedway community. We certainly want to thank everyone for their support over the years and encourage everyone to be part of the next chapter at Speedway 660″, said former co-owner Steve Burns.

This season will mark the 20th season of operation for Speedway 660 and plans are well underway to make the season a memorable one.

“We can’t explain how excited we are to have been able to put this deal together for Speedway 660. We have been part of the history of the Speedway and are excited to be able to be part of the future of Speedway 660. We want to make sure the facility remains one of the premier stock car racing facilities in Canada. We’ve got a lot of great ideas and we’ll need a lot of help and are looking forward to working with the great staff at Speedway 660.” said new co-owner, Max Roy

First order of business will be putting together the 2013 schedule and reaching out to established and new corporate sponsors to be part of this landmark 20th season of racing in the Geary woods. Fans can expect to see the 2013 schedule announced in the coming week.

“Steve and Chris and Tracy have done an excellent job over the years and we are very excited that they have agreed to help us through the transition this year at the speedway.” Said new co-owner, Debbie Foley.

Johnston and the Burns purchased the Speedway from Jerry O’Leary in 1996. The Speedway has evolved from hosting local events to being the first track in Atlantic Canada to host the CASCAR Super Series (now called NASCAR Canadian Tire Series). In 2001, Speedway 660 established the Auto Value Pro Stock 250 and the event has been a cornerstone of Pro Stock racing in the Northeast ever since.

“Its amazing how fast 17 years can go by when you are having fun. We’ve had a lot of help and support along the way from both our families and all the extended family of staff at the Speedway. Thank you to everyone that has been part of the great story of Speedway 660. We certainly appreciate all you have done for us, the Speedway, and for stock car racing in Atlantic Canada”, said former co-owner Chris Johnston.
