Big Names – Big Money – Big Race!

The Martins Home Heating Sportsman 100 takes center-stage at Speedway 660 at 7PM on Saturday night. The first big Sportsman event of the year always attracts a lot of fans and our region’s best race teams. The winner’s share of the purse is $3000.00.

“We are excited about this event because fans really enjoy Sportsman racing and we know a lot of great race teams from all over the Maritimes will be here to make a run for that first place money” said sponsor Richard Martin. “Martins Home Heating is proud to support Sportsman racing at Speedway 660  because it is so competitive for the drivers and exciting for our fans.”

John Rankin, Speedway 660’s 2009 Sportsman champ, served notice he’ll be a contender for a trip to the Riverview Ford Lincoln Victory Lane on Saturday. He beat Greg Fahey and Brent Roy, two other top Martins Home Heating 100 contenders, to win the feature last Saturday night.

“I am just an ordinary working guy, so part of what I earn every week is all I can afford to put into my racing program” said Rankin. “Three grand would be a big boost for us, but the competition is going to be stiff from Speedway 660’s regular Sportsman drivers, teams from other tracks and especially from those pro stockers who will jump into Sportsman cars this weekend.”

Dave O’Blenis, Ken MacKenzie and Glyn Nott, RE/MAX Group Four Realty Pro Stock drivers, also own Sportsman cars and will be very strong contenders in the Martins Home Heating 100. MacKenzie won the race last year and O’Blenis ran second while Nott claimed the 2012 Sportsman championship before moving up to Pro Stock this season.

Kenny MacKenzie, the 2012 Martins Home Heating Sportsman winner, is one of the favourites heading into this year’s race. MacKenzie, Speedway 660’s 2010 & 2011 Sportsman champ, now runs full-time in the RE/MAX Group Four Realty Pro Stock Division, but rolls out his championship car for the big Sportsman races.

For the first time ever, a time-trial system, similar to the one used by the Parts for Trucks Maritime Pro Stock Tour, will be used for the Martins Home Heating Sportsman 100. Drivers will run two laps and the time of their fastest lap will be used to determine starting positions for the qualifying heat races.

Fans will also see action in Speedway 660’s RE/MAX Group Four Realty Pro Stock; DMR Auto Sales & Service Street Stock; Fredericton Jewelers Four Cylinder and; West Wood Estate Apartments Bandolero Divisions. Sportsman, Street Stock and Pro Stock heat races get underway at 7PM. Bando and 4 cylinder heats will run at 6:20PM and Sportsman time trials are scheduled for 5PM.

Martins Home Heating Sportsman 100 ticket prices are $14 for Adults; $11 for  Youth (between 8 and 15 years of age); $45 for the Family Pass (two Adults and two Youths) and; admission is free for Speedway 660’s youngest race fans – seven and under.
