Jack and Richard will be missed by the racing community

It’s been a tough week for the Speedway 660 racing family. We lost two great guys who played a big role in our sport. Richard McArthur and Jack Lane both passed away in the last few days. We send our condolences to Richard and Jack’s immediate families. Richard’s funeral is tomorrow and Jack’s is on Thursday. We  have additional information.

LANE, JOHN “JACK” – It is with heavy hearts the family of John “Jack” Purdy Lane announces his death at home on September 16th, 2013. Born in Moncton, NB on December 26th, 1951 to the late Garnet “Jack” and Dorothy Lane. John was 61. Jack is survived by his wife of 30 years, Julie; son, Scott Morrison (Kim Sharp); daughters, Angie Morrison (Ryan Brown), and Patricia Morrison (Todd Wilkins); sister, Kathy (Dennis) Douthwright; eight grandchildren and a great grandchild. Jack is also survived by his pals, Gris, Yoda, and Driver. He was predeceased by his daughter, Trisha Lane, and his pal Dozer. Never missing a race in his 15 year career, Gentleman Jack, as he was known at Speedway 660, earned his name by always being there to lend a hand, both on and off the racetrack. He loved to race, and loved to win, but not at the expense of others. When he was off the track and away from his car, Jack could be found in the woods, fishing, hunting, and enjoying nature.
Visitation will be held at the Oromocto Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 18th, 2013 from 7 to 9 pm. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #93 will hold a tribute at 7 pm. A memorial service will be held at the Oromocto Funeral Home Chapel at 12:00 pm on Thursday, September 19th, 2013. McARTHUR, RICHARD LAWRENCE – The passing of Richard Lawrence McArthur of Fredericton, NB, husband of Carol (Wall) McArthur occurred on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on February 11, 1944 in Fredericton, NB, he was the son of the late Sheldon McArthur and Audrey (Timms) McArthur Jordan. He owned and operated Rockico Equipment Ltd. Richard was a member of the UCT; the Elks Club for over 40 years, he was also a Stock Car Driver, supporter and avid fan of Stock Car Racing for most of his life. Richard also loved moose hunting. In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his sons, Brent (Cindy) of McLeod Hill, NB, Trent (Deb) of Richmond, BC and Richard Jr. (Theresa) of Quispamsis, NB; grandchildren, Krystal, Doug, Dustin, Amber, Kate, Jaime-Lyn, Taylor and Grace; sisters, Judy Finnamore (Richard) and Jeryl Anne MacDonald (David); brother, Robin McArthur; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Gary.
A reception will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 from 6 to 9 pm. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com

Jack Lane signs an autograph for a young fan at the 2008 Fan Appreciation Day. Jack was a fan favourite in the Geary Woods and will be missed by everyone in the Speedway 660 racing community.
