Fredericton, NB - After a relaxing weekend that gave fans, staff and drivers a chance to enjoy the hot summer weather, Speedway 660 will return to the Geary Woods with a big event to kick off the month of August. On Saturday, August 9th, Speedway will host the Firecracker 150, the second BIG Sportsman event of the 2008 season. Meanwhile, the Irving Lubricants Pro Stocks will return this week along with the Coast Tire Street Stocks who will provide the supporting cast for the event with points races of their own.
The Firecracker 150 should attract some of the best sportsman cars in the region and fans from all over. The event will be the perfect complement to ramp up the sportsman cars for the O’leary Pontiac Sportsman 150 during the 2008 Leisure Family RV Centers SPEEDWEEKEND and will provide some of the most exciting entertainment of the weekend. Expected entries for this weekend’s event include several teams from Speedway 660 along with other teams from surrounding New Brunswick racetracks.
Aside from the Firecracker 150, the Irving Lubricants Pro Stocks and the Coast Tire Street Stocks will be providing the fans with some action packed points racing. The Irving Lubricants Pro Stock division had a week off last weekend for the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour to swing through for the second event. This weekend all Pro Stock drivers from the weekly series will get back into the swing of things for the points championship. Currently in the points race, Greg Fahey in the #20 holds a 18 point lead over contender
Brent Wiggins in the #17. In the Coast Tire Street Stock Division, rookie driver Charles Gaddess looked as if he might take home his first feature win ever last weekend, but those dreams were crushed by the #2 of Matt Matheson who took home his second feature win of the 2008 season. This weeks points leader is a former points champion, Rick Cashol in the #54, who has a only a four point lead over the second place car of 2007 points champion, Mike Francis in the #23. Only six points behind Cashol is last weekend’s feature winner Matt Matheson in the #2. Could this weekend points race lead to a change in points leader?
This weekend will be one big event you won’t want to miss. Could a Speedway 660 driver take home the win or will the drivers from other tracks around New Brunswick show off their talent and take home the win? Make sure you swing out to the Geary woods this weekend for some WicKID excitement and for your chance to see the Sportsman drivers give the track their last go to ramp up for the O’leary Pontiac Excitement 150 on August 30th.
