Fredericton, NB - After an outstanding race last weekend for the season opener the fans are looking forward to the first big event of the year. Under the lights, this Saturday night fans will see drivers from across the Maritimes and Eastern United States compete for the Irving Lubricants “Best of the Best” 100 title. Also on tap are the Coast Tire Street Stocks and Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman battling it out for regular race points.
The “Best of the Best” Pro Stock Series is a two-race mini-series featuring 100 lap events. Position points are awarded for each event with a series winner being determined after the July 12th event. Position points accumulated during the “Best of the Best” are not added to the season long Irving Lubricants Pro Stock Division Points Championship. Instead, each driver who runs a “Best of the Best” event receives 30 points towards the overall points championship (show up points). The second and final “Best of the Best” being held on July 12th with the Coast Tire “Best of the Best” 100.
Fans can expect to see US drivers Scott Chubbuck (Brunswick, ME), Travis Benjamin (Morrell, ME), and Kirk Thibeau (Presque Isle, ME) plus CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour Champion Shawn Tucker (Fredericton) along with the 2006 Peterbilt 250 Champion, Lonnie Sommerville (Saint John) take part in this weekend’s events. However the outsiders will have some tough competition against last weekends feature winner, Brent Wiggins, along with others like, Hal O’Neal, and Greg Fahey
Aside from watching the fast pace Irving Lubricants Pro Stocks entertain for 100 laps, fans will also be on the edge of their seats watching some really great racing in the other two divisions. In last weekend’s Street Stock feature, Matt Matheson in the #2 looked as if he was going to sweep the board and take home a win in his heat, dash and feature. However due to some unfortunate events in the final laps of the feature, Matheson spun out and finished farther in the pack. Matheson will return this week for another shot at winning the first hat trick of the season. In the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman division, Bradley Logan in the #37 showed everyone exactly why he was crowned champion in 2005. After starting the race in the fifth position, Logan fought his way through the front of the pack to battle it out with Wade Harris in the #5 for seven laps before taking over the lead. After taking the lead he took the race right into victory lane.
From the storylines, the edge-of-the-seat action, the WicKID family fun and the free prize giveaways, this race day will be one to remember.
