When Does 150 Equal 250? – Wade’s Weekly #7

The second most important pro stock event of the year lights up Speedway 660 on Saturday night. The Max 1 Advanced Synthetic Pro Stock 150 will attract a lot of interest from competitors and fans alike. That’s because the winner of the 150 is guaranteed a starting position in SPEEDWEEKEND’s Pro Stock 250.

Our regular stable of pro stockers will have some tough competition because we expect several CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour teams to head to Speedway 660 this weekend. And a few strong state-side competitors are likely to cross the border to try to seal the deal.

With so much at stake, we can expect one of the best races of the year. After all, the winner will secure a spot in our region’s biggest and most prestigious event of the season. With about 50 pro stockers expected to try to qualify for 28 spots in the 250, winning the 150 this weekend is huge.

Happy Jack
Jack Finney is probably having a hard time wiping the smile off his face this week. Jack saw his machine drive to victory in the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman 100 last Saturday night. Michael Banks, who is fortunate to drive for Finney, grabbed the lead from Ken MacKenzie just before the half way point and never looked back.

A quick look at the Sportsman points also shows Banks in top spot. In three point races this year Michael has a fourth and two fifths. His consistent finishes have paid off and Jack’s smile will only get bigger if Banks can finally bring that elusive Sportsman championship to the Finney team.

Young Guns Galore
The kids have invaded Speedway 660 and are stealing the show! The newest rising star is Cole Boudreau who has won two straight Bandolero features. This kid wowed our crowd by running wide open on the high groove to take the checkers last week.

Three sons of Speedway 660 veterans are also turning heads. Fifteen year old Matt Rodgers (son of Steve) and Jacob Logan (son of Bradley) are cutting their teeth in our Sportsman division. Seventeen year old Jordan Gahan (son of Paul) is having a fantastic rookie season in pro stocks.

This must seem a little strange to Brent Roy, because with a flock of other teens showing up, Brent who is all of 19 years of age, now has to be considered a Sportsman veteran.

Our Latest Saturday Night Heroes
All of this talk of a youth movement may be a little unsettling, if not down-right disturbing for some of our long-time fans. But don’t worry there are still lots of racers, from the last century, at Speedway 660. And two of them share our “unofficial” Saturday Night Hero Award for last week.

Smokin Joe Albert”, who reckons he started racin in 1962, came home second in the Street Stock feature. And “Fearless Frankie Fraser”, who has also been going fast and turning left since the sixties, finished 4th in the Sportsman feature. Smokin Joe and Fearless Frank, pioneers in our sport, are still going strong after all these years and are definitely Saturday Night Heroes.

150 Laps of Excitement
When does 150 equal 250? The answer is this weekend at Speedway 660. That’s because the winner of the 150 gets a free-pass to run in the Pro Stock 250 on SPEEDWEEKEND.

So, tell all of you friends to beat a path to Speedway 660 on Saturday night to see some of the best racin of the year.
