Fredericton, NB - It’s the first double header of the 2008 season this weekend at Speedway 660. This weekend will be the kick off to the Enduro 200 chase for the championship with the first Enduro event of 2008 being held on Friday, June 6th, followed up by DQ Kids Day plus District School Days on Saturday, June 7th. Fans will see the Enduro division on Friday night and our Coast Tire Street Stock, Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman and Irving Lubricants Pro Stock on Saturday night.
The Enduro 200 series is a division of modified rules along with no cautions throughout the entire race. “It’s a modified version of a demolition derby,” said co-owner Chris Johnston, “It really gets the fans attention because these drivers go out there to purposely chase after and wreck their fellow competitors”. Two year reining champs Benji Ruff and Dale Hatheway will return this year to see if they can repeat their championship winnings and possibly make it their third championship in a row.
Saturday will host a jammed packed day of excitement not only for the adult race fans, but for the youngsters too! DQ has hopped on board for another year with Speedway 660 to sponsor kid’s day again for another season. DQ has always made a major presence on race day with their mascots and staff helping out throughout the day. Curly top will be onsite again this year to drop the green flag for the candy scramble and take pictures with the kids during the pre-race autograph session. The event includes an In-the-Pits pre-race autograph session from 5pm-5:45pm, where kids get to meet their favourite driver in the pits. Drivers enjoy the session as much as the kids since they don’t normally have time to interact with their youngest fans for an extended period prior to the race. They are usually pretty busy prepping their cars. There is also a candy scramble on the front stretch during intermission. Last year, the kids picked up 50kg of candy in less than 2 minutes. “They are the only thing faster than the cars on that day,” said Burns.
This Saturday also hosts the Districts School Days. This event gave children in local middle and high schools the opportunity to get into this weekend’s race for Free by distributing special event tickets to every student of district 18, 17 and 14. In addition to this parents accompanying a child with a school ticket are also eligible for a reduced admission charge of $5.
“The double header weekends have always been a really popular event on our schedule the past couple of years,” says co-owner Steven Burns. “We have lot of happy fans at the end of the weekend. You don’t even have to be a stock car fan to enjoy this kind of fun.”
It’s sure to be an eventful weekend with lots of racing and tons of fun for everyone so make sure you swing by the Geary woods this weekend and check out Speedway 660 for some WicKID Family Fun!
