Double Header Weekend! – Wades Weekly #11

It’s going to be a busy weekend at Speedway 660. The Max 1 Synthetic Pro Stock 150 runs on Saturday evening and our second Enduro 200 of the year goes Sunday afternoon. We are running five classes Saturday and will start at 6:30, a half hour earlier than normal.

Punching a SpeedWeekend Ticket
The winner of this weekend’s 150 is guaranteed an automatic starting position in the Pro Stock 250 on SpeedWeekend. That’s important because the 250 attracts upwards of 50 Pro Stock teams and only 28 will qualify for our region’s biggest race of the year.

One thing is for certain, Speedway 660 will be buzzing with action this weekend. The Pro Stocks will take center-stage, but there will be lots of other action worth checking out.

A Weekend To Remember
Four other great classes will see action Saturday evening. The Bandoleros, 4 Cylinders, Street Stocks and Sportsman teams will provide our fans with loads of excitement. Championship point battles are really heating up, particularly in the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman Division.

Michael Banks currently leads the point parade, but the championship is wide-open. We are seeing the tightest race for the Sportsman title in years because there are only 43 points between Banks and 14th place Dan McNeill. And any one of those fourteen teams could claim the championship.

On Sunday our Enduro drivers roll their “Beasts of the East” out on Speedway 660. Their first event was one of the best Enduro’s we have seen in years and they are primed to go one better this weekend.

Atlantic Cat 250
The second jewel of the Triple Crown went last weekend at Scotia Speedway. Cassius Clark, who had a podium finish at the PASS event at Speedway 660 back in June, dominated the race. Congratulations to Shawn Tucker who came home second and Dave O’Blenis who was a strong fourth. Tucker and O’Blenis are former SpeedWeekend 250 winners and fan favourites in our neck of the woods.

Smilin Matt – A Saturday Night Hero
Matt Maillet finally won a big race. The young man from Burton, who has come close so many times, got it done last Saturday night. Matt won the Firecracker 150 and it was great to see this talented driver step up on the big stage.

Matt’s smile went from ear-to-ear in the Auto Pride Victory Lane after he won the 150 lap Sportsman race. His performance, determination and enthusiasm earn Matt Maillet our latest Saturday Night Hero Award.

A Street Stock Villain
Rick Cashol is about as far from being a Saturday Night Hero as you can get. In his post race interview last week, Cashol made it clear to our fans that he makes the drive from Saint John every week for two reasons: to win races and championships. He won the Street Stock feature last week and currently leads the points.

Lots of fans don’t like his aggressive driving style, but that doesn’t bother Rick Cashol. He says he doesn’t come to Speedway 660 to win the Most Popular Driver Award. Although you might not like the way Rick races, you have to admire his honesty!

A Hot August Weekend

This weekend will provide us with lots of excitement at Speedway 660. We’ll see you Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. Come on out and cheer for your favourite drivers at Atlantic Canada’s most popular race track.
